Melissa & Doug Deluxe Picnic Basket Fill & Spill Soft Baby Toy

The Melissa & Doug Deluxe Picnic Basket is recommended for children 6 months to 2 years of age, but older children and even adults seem to love this toy!  It contains 4 colorful picnic foods, including a 5 piece take apart sandwich, in a flip-top basket.  Besides the sandwich, the set includes a wedge of watermelon that squeeks, a bottled fruit drink that rattles and and ice cream cone that jingles.The design was intended to help develop fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination.

Just about everyone who reviewed the picnic basket was very pleased with it.  They especially liked the fact that it was made of soft material with no small parts to come off that young children might swallow. The food items are durable and also machine washable, a big plus for busy parents.

Babies enjoy the different sounds made by the food items, most of which are easy for them to grasp and hold. Toddlers have fun playing with all the foods, but the big winner is the sandwich which is held together with velcro and can be pulled apart and put back together again. Children also enjoy filling and emptying the basket with the food items or other toys.  Some had fun just carrying it around.

There were very few negative comments about this toy. A small number of parents commented that their children lost interest in the basket, but the majority were thrilled with how much fun their children continue to have with the Melissa & Doug Picnic Basket.
